UNDERGRADUATE SCHOLARSHIPS
General Leadership Grants
These grants are available to undergraduate brothers who have demonstrated outstanding character-in-action leadership on their campuses, in their communities, at work or in extraordinary personal situations. Last year, 76 worthy undergraduates each received $1,000 to apply toward their educations.
Order of the Scroll
This scholarship honors undergraduates who have been nominated by their chaptermates for the outstanding direction of the chapter’s educational program. Recipients have personally dedicated themselves to assisting brothers in their academic pursuits.
Ruhle Outstanding Scholars Award
This award draws its nominees from the roster of Order of the Scroll recipients and honors Sigma Chi’s top undergraduate scholar. Dr. George C. Ruhle, Montana & Yale 1931, was a Significant Sig and member of the Order of Constantine. He was also one of the Foundation’s biggest supporters from its inception. Order of the Scroll Award winners are automatically eligible for the Ruhle Award, so a separate application is not needed.
GRADUATE SCHOLARSHIPS
Balfour Fellowship
Graduate brothers serving as Balfour Fellows offer academic advising to an undergraduate chapter. Balfour Fellows collaborate with local Sigma Chi volunteers and university community members to foster an educational environment, personal growth and development in the undergraduate chapter. Last year, 46 brothers each received a $3,000 grant to apply toward their education.
Madson Graduate Scholarships
Grace and Jack D. Madson, Utah State 1925, contributed $250,000 in 1992 to establish a permanent fund to benefit first-year Sigma Chi graduate students in any academic field. Only brothers entering their first year of graduate school are eligible for this one-time scholarship.
